Njak to let don't have the capability to understand guilt. They don't feel guilt, its too complex of an emotion. What they are much more attuned to is damaged relationships. They don't know why you are mad at them they just know you are and get stressed that the relationship is damaged. Sometimes they can put 2 and 2 together and realize if I do this I damage the relationship. Sometimes if they get used to rage and anger they will lose the ability to distinguish the difference between good and bad attention. Bad attention is at least sort of a relationship.I had a cat who had urine crystals. He kept peeing everywhere but the cat box. I would rub his face in it and smack him. After a bit of this happening I finally picked up a library book and realized I had been going about this all wrong. He first started peeing outside the box because peeing in the box became associated with pain, and tried to see if other areas no longer caused pain. I got mad at him, hurt the relationship and in his head mixing our smells was a way to try and repair the relationship, so he peed on my stuff even more. Once I learned this I felt absolutely terrible, took him to the vet and he was diagnosed.
It takes extra steps to think like your animal, or even as your child, because they don't think at all like you do. Why I feel everyone needs dog training classes before they are allowed to have a child in an ideal world. training classes are more about changing the owner's mind on how the animal thinks and how to use that to boost your bond, than about training the dog. This skill translates over well to dealing with a developing human mind, where you are the authority figure. Like a dog, they crave structure, boundaries and pleasing you, but if you can't think like them, and take everything as a personal offense, resort to physical harm or let them run roughshod, their behavior is never going to be the way you wanted them because you are assuming they are thinking like a fully developed adult.
I watch Alaska , and I think a lot of the information on the show is useful and she's entertaining. I just ordered a product from her that showed up on TikTok. My dog licks her paws constantly so I'm hoping this will work. I feel really bad for my dog. I know she's miserable. My local vet offered an injection, but it's really expensive and must be repeated every couple weeks. I can't afford it. Plus I'm changing her food from chicken to a different protein.

My dog Noah is the baby of our family but today he turns 5 years old! I forget sometimes just how much of a nugget he was as a puppy.
We got him right around when Levi stopped growing and he was NOT prepared for his 'little brother' to end up like 3x his size lol.
